  • Absence Approvals
Please remember a hard copy of a signed excuse note with cause of absence identified must be submitted to the main office for us to excuse an absence.  (Please note: an email is not valid to excuse an absence per ISBE rules).
Below is a listing of excused absences reasons.
    An Excused Absence
    1. Student’s illness
    2. Observance of a religious holiday (absence note must be provided prior to absence)
    3. Death in the immediate family
    4. Family emergency
    5. Circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent for their child’s safety or health (must be approved by the principal)
    6. Other situations beyond the control of the student (as determined by the principal)
*For more information about attendance, please see the attached pdf overview.
Parents are required to send a “Reason for Absence” Note, which is also located in the main office, on the day of the student’s return to school. Please note that absences due to family vacations and student birthdays are considered unexcused under this policy (CPS)

Tardy Policy - Students arriving after 7:55 a.m. are tardy.  All tardy students must check in at the security desk or main office. In accordance with CPS policy, students who arrive after 8:46 a.m. will receive a half day absence. Students arriving after 10:15 a.m. will receive a full day absence.

Early Dismissals – In accordance with CPS policy, students dismissed before 1:45 p.m. will receive a half day absence.  Students dismissed before 12:15 p.m. will receive a full day absence. To minimize disruption to classrooms’ end-of-day routines, early dismissals will end at 2:15 p.m. There will be no exceptions. WE highly suggest scheduling doctor’s appointments, travel plans, etc., with consideration to this policy. Parents arriving after 2:15 p.m. will have to wait until the regular dismissal time.

Late Pick-Ups - Students are dismissed at 2:45. ALL students will be dismissed to their designated locations at that time. Parent is responsible for making arrangements for their child to be picked up on time. Students remaining in the office after 2:55 p.m. will be included with the after school care provider for a fee of $25. To avoid this fee, please plan for an on-time pick up of your child or alternate arrangements.

Bus Students - Bus students begin dismissal from class at 2:35 p.m. Changes to a student’s routine of riding the bus must be presented in writing, at the latest the morning of the change. To ensure student safety, office staff will not relay phone messages regarding changes, when possible.

Teacher Availability – If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher(s) please send an email or leave a note in the main office to schedule an appointment. Per the CTU contract, teachers are not available before or after school to hold impromptu meetings with parents.
